Learn how time management helps you boost your studies!

Do you manage your time well to combine studies with leisure? Free time is essential for your learning. This is because when you study more than recommended, you end up leaving aside essential activities for the learning process, including rest and fun.

That way, you can often get the feeling that the more you study, the less you learn. In addition to the feeling that the hours of the day are not enough to carry out all the intended activities. So be on the lookout as these are signs that you are not managing your time effectively.

But don’t worry, you’re not the only one. Many people have difficulty organizing themselves. Thus, for an efficient study routine, the brain must be rested and, therefore, spending sleepless nights to catch up on demands, for example, will not have a good effect.

To help all students in this mission, we have listed in this article practical tips on how to manage the ideal study time so that all activities are fulfilled, including leisure. Come on?

What is time management?

Time management is a process of organizing, planning and establishing a routine that will be followed daily, so that all activities are performed, productivity and efficiency are maintained.

There are several tools that help with this management, such as planners and agendas . For those who love technology and don’t leave their screens, there are also apps with this function, for example, Kanban, Notion and Trello. They are great ways to start getting organized, listing the main tasks of the day and setting aside the ideal time to complete each one.

What is its importance in the study routine?

As we mentioned above, it’s important to have moments of leisure and rest so that your studies yield more and you can fix the content better. That way, when your routine is well organized, you don’t miss out on any activity, and you don’t jeopardize the learning process.

Research from the University of California has shown that resting at different times favors memory and productivity more than spending hours on end dedicated to the same task. That’s because it’s in moments of rest that the brain makes more associations and stores content better, according to scientists.

In addition, it is possible to separate study blocks for each subject in time management. For example, if you have more difficulty in math and it takes longer to solve the exercises in that discipline, then set aside a larger space for that discipline.

How to manage your time well?

Now that you’ve learned the importance of time management in studies, let’s learn how to put it into practice? Follow!

Analyze your routine

In order to manage efficiently, it is important to understand which activities are indispensable in your daily life. To do this, list:

    • class schedules;
    • working hours (if any);
    • sports (if you do);
    • moments with family;
  • between others.

After writing down all this information, you will know if there are windows for study and leisure and, therefore, you will be able to distribute other tasks at that time. It’s not easy to reconcile everything, but with a little organization and dedication, it’s possible – and we guarantee it works!

After all, there are people who need to work and study and manage to reconcile the two. This group, in particular, needs to organize itself even more so as not to get in the way and overload the routine. When this happens, you just want to relax in your free time and end up putting other commitments aside.

set your goals

When you know where you’re going, it’s easier to chart a path, right? Therefore, think carefully about the goals you want to achieve and separate the steps to achieve them.

For example, if your goal is to get better grades in math, then set aside time every day to do activities that you struggle with.

Set deadlines

Like it or not, human beings only work with deadlines. Without a set date to deliver the tasks, procrastination ends up dominating the mind and tasks are increasingly postponed.

Therefore, set deadlines for the fulfillment of everything you have to do, depending on the urgency. If you have a job to deliver on Friday, set a deadline for each step of that job so that by the deadline, everything is ready.

Write down your appointments

What is not seen, is not remembered. And yes, that sentence is real! If you don’t write down all your appointments, chances are you’ll forget some of them due to the busy routine of everyday life. So, take the agenda out of the drawer and write everything down. Here goes:

    • school commitments, such as handing in assignments and tests;
  • work commitments, such as meetings and report deliveries;
  • personal commitments, such as going to the dentist, going to the bank, hairdresser, etc.

Set priorities

As most people are immediate, they want to solve everything at the same time. However, this is not possible, as it is also harmful. After all, those who want to do everything end up doing nothing.

So make a list of all your tasks and put a red tag on what can’t be postponed or delegated. Do this with urgent, less urgent or not at all urgent tasks. This will make the routine much easier, in addition to relieving stress.

Do not procrastinate

It may seem repetitive to talk about procrastination, but it’s important to hit that key. Who never left to do a job on the delivery date, or study for the test the day before? It’s common to have this attitude, but it’s not cool and can trigger anxiety.

So why not do today what you would leave for tomorrow? Isn’t it much better to finish all the tasks and rest later, with the feeling of accomplishment, than to be worried and afraid of not finishing what must be done in time?

Include moments of leisure and rest

Including moments to rest and have fun is not only good for studying, but also for physical and mental health.

That’s because, spending a lot of time without having a break to relax and have fun can lead to a number of problems, including Burnout Syndrome, chronic stress, anxiety disorders and depression.

However, it is not easy to switch off knowing the amount of activities that must be carried out. You can even try to sit on the couch to relax, but your mind will be thinking about everything that has to be done and, probably, you will not be able to rest.

In the case of studies, it is scientifically proven that rest is fundamental in the learning process. When a person is tired, neurons have more difficulty transferring new content to long-term memory. Thus, the intervals will allow the new information to be fixed and allow you to regain your concentration.

Avoid overload

Being productive and being able to accomplish several tasks in one day is not bad. However, when your schedule starts to get too full, anxiety can set in again due to the feeling of not being able to handle everything.

In addition, you will be frustrated and discouraged from carrying out the following tasks. Therefore, it is important to know yourself, to know how long it takes to carry out each activity and to understand that it is okay to take your own time and say no to people.

If you don’t want to overload yourself, separate what is a priority and what can be done later. Then, organize your schedule according to what you can produce in a day — respecting rest and leisure moments — and, finally, do what you can.

Remember that it is preferable to do fewer activities, with more quality, than all at the same time, anyway !
